Erskine had been ill in recent months, according to Lowayne Sammons, the newspaper’s office manager.

He is survived by his wife, Germaine Erskine of Rossmoor; sons John, an attorney and Huntington Beach City Council member, Thomas, a real estate broker in Paso Robles, James, a U.S. Navy doctor in San Diego, and William, an engineer in Cypress. He also leaves his mother, Dagnay Nelson of Anaheim, his sister, Dorothy Erskine of Anaheim, and two grandchildren.
